I admit it. I was skeptical about getting a juice pack but necessity called.  My cover (iFrogz) chipped and broke within a week so I  had been gluing it back together so I needed a new cover…. But that’s not the reason for a juice pack is it?  I had been running so many apps at once that I was draining the battery within 7 hours of use! Blame it on excessive Facebook and Twitter usage!

Now off to the technical stuff:

So I needed a quick fix so I bought a Mophie Juice Pack Air.

It’s a case and a quick power source in one. It has a pretty sleek design (all rounded edges) and weighs about 2.66 ounces.

Also, it comes with  a mini USB connection that can hookup into the normal iPhone  Charger plugin. The USB can also get plugged into your laptop or any computer or car charger as long as it has a USB female connection on the car charger.

Mine did not come pre-charged and they recommend charging prior to using and you can do it without having it on the phone. Four Nice LED’s on the back to let you know how much charge you have. (4=full the last light blinks)

I have been using it for a few days. So far pretty happy with the Mophie Juice Pack Air ( I got the red one) but I am going to put it through some rough tests to see if it is robust enough (including a 5 year old and a 2 year old playing with it and using it constantly to play First Words app by learning touch constantly!)  I will give you my ongoing tests.  Photos and Video  coming soon!

It’s me again with a quick tutorial about the different types of  iPhone backup batteries.  Here we go:

1. External with Direct hookup: It hooks up to the 30 pin doc connector directly. No cables. Snaps on. compact! But you can’t really move around and play especially in landscape mode. Need to be careful not to put too much pressure on the connector!

2. External with cable hookup: It hooks up to the 30 pin doc connector via a cable. A little larger in size but effective.  the cable can get a little cumbersome! Can’t really play as the wire gets in the way also got to be careful with pulling or pushing on the connector.

3. Battery Case(juice pack case): Fits over the iPhone like a glove, no hookups or wires. Makes the phone a little bulkier but you can play and go about your routines as usual. It is a great option for those of us  on-the-go! There are also some models with leather cases(for those who like the feel of leather, that is!)

4. Battery Power Doc (foldable) : much like the External with direct hookup but it has the foldable option.  So, you can set it up or on its side while it is recharging.  Cool looking but from a practicality standpoint, jury is still out!

5.  External Rechargeable Battery SOLAR POWER PAK: it is a variation of the external direct hookup.  Some models have the option to have USB, or AC power backup so in case there is no sun, then other backups can run through the charger! However, no all of them have that feature!

I hope this helps with the confusion!  And let me say that they do come out with new designs all the time! IF you find a new category feel free to comment or send me an email at : admin@iphonebackupbattery911.com  I will expand on each of these categories soon!

Photo on 2009-11-13 at 14.58I am an avid, iPhoneholic! (I should probably Trademark that!) So are my 4 and 1 and half year old sons!   Just nuts about it! And I have been known to lose track of time and suddenly I see the bar going down and then the 20% , then 10% battery remaining warnings comes up!   So, what do you do when the inevitable happens?

You have to do some research because it can be a bit confusing, so I  compiled a list of things to look for… I call it the basic training to help guide you through finding a solution. Here it goes:

iPhone Backup battery helps you in 2 situations:

1. Gotta-Have-it-Now use: This when you’re just running on empty, the “warning lights” are coming on, the red icon starts to flash and then you see the black screen! In all seriousness, it’s for when you forgot to charge the iPhone, were out and no access to your charger, played games until your wrists are sore or lost track of time texting your loved ones or soon-to-be -loved ones!!
2. Wanna-play-longer use: You want to use your iPhone for a longer period (longer than the internal battery allows for typically 5 to 6 hours).

How much Power or “juice” is needed?

Well, iPhone eats up a lot of power.  About 1150 mAh to be exact. Now, you ask what the heck is a mAh?

I have the answer:  mAh stands for Milliamp Hour, a technical term for how much power a particular battery will hold. Batteries with higher mAh values theoretically last longer without requiring a recharge, allowing you to “play” longer.

So the iPhone backup batteries with mAh values above 1150 mAh will give faster recharge times (Gotta-Have-it-now) and longer concomitant play times (Wanna-play-longer).

The backup batteries with lesser value will still work , it just means it may take longer to charge and may only get one charge out of them. Also remember it may not fully recharge the iPhone battery back to it’s full charge.  In my next post I will talk about other guidelines to ponder!

’till next time, happy playing with your iPhone and remember to have a backup battery handy just in case the dreaded black screen comes after you!

;D asked:

I was thinking about getting the iPhone for Christmas,
but I heard some bad things about it :S
can any one tell me a few things about it?

My answer is simple.  NOTHING BAD! minor nuisances, MAYBE., but nothing bad. I am a crazed freak about the iPhone because of what it can do for me.  So the question is what can it do for you?? Every machine has limitations and a learning curve as does the iPhone.  I was frustrated with texting and typing at first as I had switched from the stylus type Palm treo! And that was a rough 1 week.  Yes, 1 week, that’s all it took to get used to the new intuitive iPhone way!

I like to do so many things with it that I tend to drain the battery out( I have 4 emails that I check simultaneously!) and surf the net, and navigate to my destination and as you can see within a few hours the battery is down to 10%.  So, aside from all the great things invest in a good backup battery system, oh also get a good, hard case in case you drop it…spend the extra dough as it will pay you dividends multiple times over and over!

Good luck!

Computer Geek asked:

I am planning on getting the iPhone when it comes out. I would like to know a few things about it. What are the pros and cons of getting it? Anything would be helpful!

Well, I say learn the basics, also more importantly KNOW what you want to accomplish with it!

Are you a GAMER then you need gobs and gobs of power to keep the battery from draining out way too fast! You may also consider a sleeve-type or sliding slim fit power pack cases so then it won’t interfere with the enjoyment while doing some awesome moves in landscape mode.

If you’re just using the iPhone for personal use then a basic detachable one will do.

You can even go Solar-powered!

But, in all honesty, think about what you’d like to get out of iPhone before you invest, then always think about the backup battery!

Cheers,
